I was not feeling very inspired today. I again found myself sitting around my house in the evening, realizing I had not yet done a photo of the day. It’s more challenging than I thought it would be to remember to bring my camera with me when I go out. It’s pretty heavy and bulky and I don’t always want to be hauling it around with me. I’ve read that when doing this project it is a good idea to bring a small handheld camera with you, but I just don’t love the pictures I get with my small camera compared to my DSLR.

Anyway, as I was sitting here taking pictures of random boring things around the house, and fiddling with my settings, my daughter stepped into the light of a table lamp and I started snapping pictures of her. I had my telephoto/macro lens on and I found that when I zoomed right in, the picture really came to life! I loved the results so much I asked my other daughter to pose as well.

I absolutely love how these pictures came out. I’m particularly happy that I managed to get nice pictures out of such low light conditions (and using the zoom lens to boot).

I’m finding it hard to locate good photo subjects in the current desolate winterscape. I love beautiful bright colours but I’m not finding too much out there that isn’t gray, brown, or white!  These poor dead and dying berries were one small bright spot in my photo hunt today. I’m looking forward to the time when they come back to life!

This fellow is known to hang out at the creek by my house. Every once in awhile I will catch a movement out of the corner of my eye, and turn my head only to see him calmly standing in the creek. I often wonder why he chooses this spot when there are plenty of more private spots for a heron to hang out at around town, but he does seem to like it here.  He is not at all bothered by people or by cars and will even let people get within 2 or 3 feet of him before he flies away. I actually have several photos of this guy on file, he is is extremely patient and seems to like having his picture taken!
